When a mutating and highly contagious fungus escapes a heavily sealed facility, two employees of a storage unit, joined by a bioterror operative where they all must survive the wildest nightshift of their lives, and save humanity from extinction.
I have been waiting for this film for over a year, since checking what Joe Keery was up to post Stranger Things, and it was a great film, a nice laid back film which has a few funny moments too.
Cold Storage is an energetic, and often ridiculous mix of science-fiction, horror and comedy which does not take itself too seriously. This is both the greatest strength and weakness combined.
The centre of the story Joe Keery plays a character called Teacake and Georgina Campbell plays a character called Naomi. Two colleagues who work a night shift at a storage unit, where they begin to investigate a beeping noise which soon becomes apparent that they need to save humanity from this contagious fungus. Their chemistry is playful and keeps the movie grounded regardless of the body count increase and the flying goo. Liam Neeson stars in this film too, as the bioterror expert which adds to the almost tongue-in-cheek presence which lifts the majority of the scenes.

Do not expect tight logic, deep thinking or emotional depth as this film is not that sort of movie. Some reviews I have read have pointed out a lot of negatives amongst this movie, including clunky dialogue and thin narrative stakes, but I just thought it was a bit of fun, something to watch and laugh at and enjoy – NOT EVERY FILM NEEDS TO BE SERIOUS!.
If you enjoy being grossed out by vomiting, mainly projectile, alongside slapstick comedy then this film definitely fills that gap and provides plenty of moments which are fun.
On a visual sense, Cold Storage does not shy away from the slime, explosions, and over the top infected horror where it is a mix of being entertaining and having some obvious CGI scenes (especially the deer and cat scene).
I found this film very fun, and its a shame it hasn’t made more in the box office, but again, its a bit of fun to watch for around 1hour 30 minutes. It is not destined to be a classic, like Ghostbusters, but it is an enjoyable film for all fans of camp style sci-fi horror, and if you watch it with the right expectations then you’ll likely have a great time!
