Wednesday (2022)

Created by: Alfred Gough, Miles Millar

Starring: Jenna Ortega, Gwendoline Christie, Riki Lindhome, Jamie McShane, Hunter Doohan, Percy Hynes White, Emma Myers, Joy Sunday, Victor Dorobantu and other cast members who feature in a few episodes but not main casting.

This TV show follows the life of Wednesday Addams as a student at Nevermore Academy where she attempts to master her psychic abilities and to solve the mystery that has involved her parents when they were students at Nevermore.

First and foremost, I know I am late with this show and the review, I just, well, I have just put off watching this show until the hype had died down a little – I have no idea why. I think I was too deep in watching Emily in Paris, and being too deep in the YouTube hole of “hotel reviews” – don’t even go there.

I finally sat down and watched this show, I did not binge it but rather spread the series episodes over a week, and although I will probably have some disagreements with this following comment – I didn’t enjoy it as much as I had hoped. I tolerated the show, and it caught my attention enough to finish the series, but, honestly, I think the dance scene everyone is obsessed with is completely overrated.

I like Jenna Ortega as an actress, I enjoyed her in Netflix’s “You” series 2, and she makes a great Wednesday Addams, but that, for me, is it. I expected so much more from this show considering the huge hype off the back of the show…

I did love Emma Myers character “Enid” – she reminded me a lot of myself, happy, colourful and bubbly all of the time. What a great character, she certainly made me laugh at times.

The acting, the choreograph, and CGI are all great, but, as I have said before, I was not overly satisfied by the end of the final episode. Sorry.

I will be looking forward to series 2 – wherever it ends up being streamed, and hopefully the second series will turn my opinion around and step up. I just cannot believe the ratings for this show beat Stranger Things – how??

Update: Maybe it was the music in this series that made it the huge obsession it has become with many, many people , as I have checked in on spotify and have been listening to the official playlist since posting this review and I love the music so much.

I rate this show 4 stars

Rating: 4 out of 5.
