After seeing Ghostbusters: Afterlife, I have impatiently waited for Frozen Empire to approach our cinema screens, and this film, unfortunately, didn’t live up to the hype I hoped it would.

I have been a fan of Ghostbusters for years, and I enjoy the originals. Afterlife was a good release, as the film brought the franchise to the modern-day world with a touch of old-school nostalgia which a lot of people enjoyed – including myself.

With Frozen Empire, I had hoped this would progress to that, and in some aspects, it did, where Callie (Coon) is shown to be a full-time ghostbuster, with her partner, Gary (Rudd), and her two children, with the help of Winston, Ray and Peter in the background. I enjoyed watching the film, as me my partner watched it in 4DX (where the seats move to the motions of the movie) but I was overall, not 100% happy with the film.

The reason for my dismay in this film is down to the character arc of Phoebe, where she ends up creating a close blond, or rather, falls for a ghost named Melody, and is possessed by the Villain ghost “Garraka” after she agrees to use a scientific process to separate her spirit from her body. In Afterlife Phoebe was shown as a smart young girl who didn’t allow anyone to manipulate her, but in Frozen Empire her character seems to show a naivety about her and allows herself to fall for a ghost who ends up lying to her causing Phoebe to be tricked into separating her spirit from her body to help an evil entity.

To me, the whole story around that seemed lazy, and dull, and from reviews I have seen it seems I am not the only one who was not impressed with Frozen Empire.

Its a shame, as Ghostbusters is a great film franchise, and the casting is great – especially as the original casting has come back into it, too. I just felt this film was not the Ghostbusters we know and love, and the writing seemed dull – as if they ran out of ideas almost.

Overall, the 4DX experience was great, and any movie with a lot of movement and action is highly recommended to be seen in 4DX, if possible.

I rate this fil 3 out of 5 stars, purely due to my disappointment with the movie plot.

Rating: 3 out of 5.
