IF (2024)

Directed by: John Krasinski

Written by: John Krasinski

Starring: Ryan Reynolds, John Krasinski, Cailey Fleming, Fiona Shaw, Steve Carell, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Alan Kim, and a lot of other cast members listed from IMDb.

A young girl named Bea (Cailey Fleming) goes through a challenging experience and starts to see everyone’s imaginary friends who have been left behind as their real-life friends have grown up.

Upon seeing the trailer for this a short while ago, I did have mixed feelings about the film and became unsure as to whether this would be a film I would enjoy or not. I left it for a while, and yesterday evening, I decided to watch it with my partner.

Although some scenes were a little strange, we thoroughly enjoyed it. I think I enjoyed it more than my partner did, to be honest! IF is my sort of film – quirky, weird, and draws the audience in, a little bit childish, but funny at the same time.

The film also keeps you guessing as to whether Ryan Reynolds’ character was real or whether he was someone’s idea of too. As a massive fan of the casting (more so Ryan Reynolds, John Krasinski, and also Cailey Fleming – as I watched her grow up in The Walking Dead), I very much enjoyed this film and the music was great too – I am now obsessed with Tina Turner – Better Be Good To Me!.

This film looks to be aimed at children, but it’s actually a wholesome film aimed at adults, even John Krasinski’s character was great (regardless of how little he featured in the movie). It’s not just for children; it’s also a great reminder for adults who have lost their inner child.

Imagination is not just for children but for adults too, as it’s a trait we all have as humans – to have imaginations and to not lose that!

My favourite scene does have to be this scene below:

The special effects are also significant, especially the scene where Ryan Reynolds’ character, Cal, comes out of a painting and then knocks over the other IF’s paintings and items come out of their displays – it’s very clever.

I will not say too much, as I’m unsure how many people who read this have seen the movie yet, and I’m not one for spoilers.

I also need to point out I loved the wardrobe selection in the film and how great the film ended up being – so great it has me wanting to watch it again!

I rate this film 5 stars!

Rating: 5 out of 5.
