Directed by: Aneesh Chaganty

Written by: Aneesh Chaganty and Sev Ohanian

Starring: Sarah Paulson, Keira Allen, Sara Sohn, Pat Healy, Erik Athavale, BJ Harrison, Sharon Bajer and many other cast members who are not main castings.

A young teenager, who is also homeschooled, starts to suspect her mother and has a strong feeling that she is keeping a dark secret.

Day seven from the Netflix October Halloween Calendar, and I have seen this film twice now, once when it dropped on Netflix in 2020, and again recently for this Halloween Calendar on Netflix.

From watching this a second time I did feel that the film was a little too extra, in terms of the story, how long it took for the teenager to seek help – this included the pharmacist (where this scene stressed me out to where I was screaming at the TV), and how for a thriller I feel everything was compacted towards the last half an hour, rather than earlier on in the film.

Thinking about how this film made me feel, it did have me focused on the film, immersed in the scenes to where I did find myself screaming at the TV a few times, the acting from both Sarah Paulson and Kiera Allen were superb, but I did feel heavy feelings upon the film finishing, as-well as my anxiety levels, due to the intensity of everything being pushed to come to a conclusion within the last half hour of the film.

I did enjoy it though, the story was good, the acting was great, and the directing/writing was also great, I just would have preferred the story to have been spread out more for the duration and not have the climaxes of each scene feel rushed toward the end.

Overall, a good film and well worth a watch, it gives the vibes of the Stephen King film, Misery.

So, if you want a film that keeps you focused and gives the feelings of being fully immersed in the film, then this will be a good film to watch, and regardless of my criticisms of the film, I did enjoy it!

I rate this film 4 stars

Rating: 4 out of 5.
