What I watched in November 2020

Michael Che Matters (Netflix – 2016)

Saturday Night Live (SNL) star and Michael Che takes on hot topics to talk about in this stand up show, from inequality, homophobia, gentrification and much more, filmed live (in 2016) in Brooklyn, NYC.

Since discovering SNL after my friend suggested I should start watching it, I have become a huge fan of the show and look forward to “weekend update” which features Michael Che, and his co-host star Colin Jost. But upon exploring Netflix I found this stand up show from Michael Che, along with some other stand up shows he has done, but I enjoy his stand up, and now officially a fan of his. Highly recommend giving it a watch and giving SNL a watch too!

Kenan & Kel (1996-2000)

Image from Google Images

An American sitcom which was on TV when I was growing up, about two best friends; Kenan Rockmore (Kenan Thompson) and Kel Kimble (Kel Mitchell) who end up on many misadventures.

The show originally aired on Nickelodeon for 4 seasons, which ended in July 2000, and set in front of a live studio audience in Chicago, Illinois.

The show featured Kenan’s family, consisting of his father Roger (Ken Foree) mother Sheryl (Teal Marchande), and younger sister Kyra (Vanessa Baden), where Kyra also had a huge crush on Kel, and Kel loved Orange Soda! The show also featured a character named Chris Potter (Dan Frischman) who played as Kenan’s boss in the show.

Although this show is rather old now, I enjoyed watching it all again and reminiscing of a simpler time when I loved watching this show and wanted to be part of the audience seeing it live. I never realised it was not possible as I was not from America. However, I enjoyed watching this show again, brought back great memories too and for ones who see this and haven’t seen it, there are clips on YouTube, take a look and see what you think.

Dash & Lily (Netflix 2020)

Official Trailer of Dash and Lily via Netflix on YouTube.com

This is one show I have waited for what has felt ages to come off the “coming soon” list on Netflix, to my watchlist.

This show is comedy, drama and romance rolled in together, Joe Tracz is the creator of this series, and it is based upon the book “Dash and Lily’s Book of Dares” written by Rachel Cohn and David Levithan.

The story is a lighthearted Christmas love story about two young people who end up finding each-other through communication via a notebook, across the city. Sounds a bit cliche, but its an effortless and relaxing watch, especially at the moment with everything to do with Covid-19.

This series has 8 episodes, so can be binged, or spread out over every week (much like what I am doing). And it stars:

Austin Abrams – Dash

Midori Francis – Lily

Dante Brown – Broomer

Troy Iwata – Lanston

Agneeta Thacker – Priya

I am thoroughly enjoying this and is giving me good festive feels for Christmas! If you are struggling to find something to watch, then watch this, I promise it is good!

Kevin Hart: Zero F**ks Given. Netflix Special, 2020

Official Trailer via Netflix on Youtube.com

During these times we could all use a laugh, and I don’t think there is anyone better to do that than Kevin Hart. I saw this trailer drop on Netflix a few weeks ago within the “Coming Soon” section of Netflix, and I have been looking forward to this ever since.

This dropped on Netflix on 17th November, and I don’t think I laughed so much to where tears were running down my cheeks. I have always been a fan of Kevin Hart, and enjoy his films and his standup.

The new stand up is from his home as he created a stand-up stage inside. He reveals that it is the only place where he feels safe during the pandemic.

During this stand-up, Kevin Hart tackles his family, cheating, cancel culture, and more, giving a taste of what’s to come in the masked up, socially distant stand-up special on Netflix. This is definitely one to watch, for sure! Check it out.

Also, check out his Audiobook too; “The Decision” – well, if you are a fan of course!

The Handmaid’s Tale (Season 1-3); Amazon Prime Video.

Created by Bruce Miller, and based on the 1985 novel which was written by Margaret Atwood, this TV series is about a story of life in the dystopia of Gilead, where environmental disasters with a plunging birthrate show Gilead to be ruled by twisted fundamentalism, to try and “return to values of tradition”.

I have just started watching series 1 on Amazon Prime Video, and I can see why many people are enjoying it. There are three seasons of this so far and are available on streaming services i.e. Hulu, and Amazon Prime.

Im A Celebrity: Get Me Out Of Here (2020); ITV

This show needs little introduction. It is a show where several known celebrities enter a place called in Australia, where they are all living together in extreme conditions with a few creature comforts. Each member is always placed to be voted for trials by the general public, to win stars, by undertaking some odd challenges to secure additional food and treats for the group and to avoid being voted out by viewers during their stay, before someone eventually wins a series and is crowned as “King or Queen” of the jungle.

In 2020, this was announced it would be going ahead despite COVID-19 and will be in the UK, more specifically, Gwrych Castle in Abergele, North Wales.

Hosted by Ant and Dec of course, as they are the best men for this show :D.

Ant and Dec, the hosts of the show and the most handsome men to ever exist on this planet!!

Saved By The Bell Reboot; Peacock TV, 2020

Saved By The Bell class of 2020. Image via Google Images.

I have spoken about this a few times now, along with the original series, and posted a review of the reboot.

Released on 25th November 2020, on Peacock TV in the US, I watched the 10 episode series at once, binging in an afternoon/evening, with my VPN for help too.

This show follows a brand new cast, based in the present day, within Bayside High, and the show also features The Max (if familiar with the original series, this was a popular set in the show).

It is packed with many original nostalgic scenes and easter eggs from the original series. If you have watched “Zack Morris is Trash” on YouTube, you will have noticed a few of the quotes from the YouTube videos, created by Dashiell Driscoll, being used within this reboot series.

The reunion cast members included; Mario Lopez (AC Slater), Tiffani Thiessen (Kelly Kapowski), Lark Voorhies (Lisa Turtle), Elizabeth Berkley (Jessie Spano) and Mark-Paul Gosselaar (Zack Morris). Unfortunately, there was no sign of Mr Belding or Screech, but there were mentions of both characters; Screech is living in Space, and Mr Belding had retired!

The new cast members, and the SBTB class of 2020 include:

Mitchell Hoog as Mac Morris

Belmont Cameli as Jamie Spano

Josie Totah as Lexi

Haskiri Velazquez as Daisy

Alycia Pascual-Pena as Aisha

Dexter Darden as Devante

John Michael Higgins as Principal Toddman
